Prop/ Set Design

For Maddie’s room, there are some aspects we want to highlight. One of them is Maddie’s old life (her past friendships), we want to include this cork board full of pictures of Maddie and her best friend that moved away. Here, I asked Fatima to send me pictures of her and one of her childhood best friends, preferably one who she has a lot of pictures with. This cork board will hang in her room and strives to add more context to the story and explain why Maddie feels the way she does.

Here you can see the bland color scheme for Fatima's room that fits with Maddie's emptiness:

For assembling the cork picture board, I printed pictures of Fatima, her with her dad, and her childhood best friend (Maddie’s best friend). I also added other elements like these honor roll patches which show how Maddie’s always been good student, I added a Cancun sticker next to a picture of her at the beach to show her childhood travels, and I also added this glitter heart that one of my friends made me when I moved away and this was used as a little gift from the same best fried that is seen all over Maddie’s room.

Santina also brought a frame that said, “my best friend,” and there we put a picture of Maddie and her best friend, but a little bit older, this time on her nightstand, which would be seen in the shot where she gets her diary. Also, regarding her nightstand, we changed the light bulb on her bedside lamp to a cooler one rather than the super orange one that was there before. This cooler bulb will create a sadder and more somber tone than the warm light, which is almost comforting.
