Project Schedule

This project can seem like a lot to handle but if one takes the time to organize themselves and plan how to execute the film opening and all its components this project will be easier to take on. We will have 7 weeks to work on the portfolio project.

The project has 3 main components

1. Film Opening

Goal: create the first two minutes of a brand-new fiction film, including proper opening titles.

To do:

  • Planning: Pick a story, write a short script, and sketch a storyboard.
  • Production: Film the scenes, record Foley and other sounds
  • Editing: Edit footage together, include title and credits, adjust colors, add any effects needed
  • Final check: Review and analyze the version of the opening

2. Blog Postings

Goal: keep a blog to document the whole process from start to finish, 4 posts per week

To Do:

  • Research: Watch and analyze film openings in my chosen genre
  • Planning: Share my story ideas, script drafts, and storyboard sketches
  • Filming updates: Post behind-the-scenes photos and reflect on challenges faced
  • Editing process: Explain my choices (titles, sound, effects, etc.)
  • Final product: Upload the finished film opening.
  • Reflection: Talk about what worked well, what didn’t, and what I learned from the whole process

3. Creative Critical Reflection

Goal: reflect on your work in a creative way (podcast, video commentary, slideshow, etc)

To do:

  • How does the product use or challenge conventions for the genre chosen?
  • How does it represent social groups or issues?
  • How does it engage with audiences?
  • How would it be distributed as a real media text?
  • How did I integrate technologies?
  • How did my production skills develop throughout?
